Alice Mabel (Emery) Holder Mitchell - 3rd marriage

Alice Mabel (Emery) Holder Mitchell, second child of my great great grandparents, Abigail (Williams) and Fred J Emery married for a third time to Durland Wadsworth Brown.   They married on September 7, 1920 in Lake County, Indiana.

The first marriage of Alice Mabel Emery with Fred Colby Holder Jr ended in divorce around 1909.  Her second marriage to Charles Francis Mitchell ended in divorce sometime prior to her marriage to Durland.  I have yet to find divorce information between Alice Mabel (Emery) Holder Mitchell Brown and Durland Wadsworth Brown.

Alice Mabel Emery Holder Mitchell Brown - 1930 residence

I thought I had possibly tracked down the 1930 US Census for Alice Mabel Emery Holder Mitchell Brown.    I have doubts that my theory of a marriage between Alice Mabel Emery to a Stogstill are correct.    Also having been married multiple times makes it difficult as I do not know which last name she used at any given time.    She also used her middle name often eliminating the first name which creates another issue.   It is interesting that Mabel used her first husband's last name after divorces from her subsequent marriages.

I did find a phone directory for 1930 listing Mabel Holder living at 4718 Winthrop Avenue, Chicago which was the Daniels Apartment hotel owned by her brother, Fred (Emery) Daniels.

Mabel's entry is on the left side, 3rd column midway down the page.

Here is a closeup of the entry:

The Illinois Bell Telephone company directory was labeled 'Summer Telephone Directory'.  For reference, the 1930 US Census for the Daniels Apartment Hotel, taken April 7th did not list Mabel as a resident*.    It's possible Mabel moved into the building after the census and prior to the publishing of the phone directory.

*The additional (15) residents listed were on the next page of the census.  I did not post the additional census page.

1860 US Mortality Schedule - Olive (Jacobs) Emery

The United States used to have a mortality schedule from 1850 - 1880 for those that died in the year prior to the regular census.    Olive (Jacobs) Emery, wife of Henry Emery passed away September 26, 1859 of consumption which we know today as tuberculosis.    Olive died in Weller township, Henry county, Illinois.

Olive's entry is number 20.   The schedule indicates she was born in New York which matches the 1850 US Census.     Most family trees I have encountered indicate Olive was born in Pennsylvania, possibly Philadelphia yet no one has been able to confirm her location of birth or the names of her parents.

If anyone has cracked the case on Olive's ancestry, please leave a message in the comments.

William Patrick Emery: Family Portrait

Here is a photo of William Patrick Emery and wife Margaret (Firman) and six of their nine children, Mollie (Mary), Frank, Owen Dale, Robert, James Arlo and Cordia.

Missing from the photo are two of Margaret and Williams' children, Henry, their eldest son had died December 1, 1875 and their youngest Harry Ray had not been born yet.  Harry was born January 20, 1888.    This photo would have been taken probably in 1886 or 1887 based upon the age of Cordia who was born May 11, 1881.

William was the son of Olive (Jacobs) and Henry Emery.
