Here is the 1925 Iowa Census for Georgia Peck, husband Burchard, their son Edward and my great great great grandmother, Sarah (Dwire or Dwyer) Emery. The 1925 Iowa census contains much more information than the US census and is quite useful in verifying you are on the right track. There are 3 pages per individual.
Burchard is the last entry.
Georgia is the top entry, son Edward second and Sarah Emery third.
The page below lists Burhcard's father and mother's maiden name and their respective places of birth.

1920 US Census - Georgia Peck
Here is the 1920 US census for Georgia Peck living with husband Burchard and three of their four children, Florence, Paul and Edward. Apparently Lucile had passed away sometime between 1910 and 1920.

1910 US Census - Georgia Peck
Here is the 1910 US Census for Georgia (Emery) Peck and husband Burchard. They were still living in Ottumwa, Iowa with their children Florence, Paul and Lucile. Burchard had moved on from being a day laborer in 1900 to a grocery salesman by 1910.
Georgia's mother, my great great great grandmother, Sarah (Dwier or Dwyer) Emery was also living in the household at the time of the census. I have not seen a death certificate for my great great great grandfather David W Emery who died in January 1909, but this document helps confirm he died prior to 1910.

1910 US Census - Charles Emery
Continuing my post from yesterday about Charles Emery, by 1910, Charles had moved from Ottumwa, Iowa to Sacramento, California with wife Etta (Rowe) and their two youngest children, Roy and Ethel.
I haven't researched where their eldest son, Fred had moved, but according to the book "Conrad Emery and His Descendants" written by Frederic B. Emery, Fred died at sea on October 27, 1910 a few months after the census was taken.

1900 US Census - David W Emery & Charles Emery
Here is the 1900 US census for my great great great parents, Sarah (Dwier or Dwyer) and David W Emery living with two of their children, Clyde and Ben in Ottumwa, Iowa.
The census has David's incorrect birth information, he was born September 13, 1930, not September 1870.
This was the one census that indicated Sarah and David had 11 children, 6 of which were still alive in 1900. The book "Conrad Emery and His Descendants" written by Frederic B. Emery only listed 8 of their children. I have figured out 10 of the 11, but haven't been able to locate the name of the 11th, unless it is a census error.
Further down the record is David and Sarah's eldest son, Charles and his wife Etta (Rowe) and their three children, Fred Clarence, Roy and Ethel Mae. Like his father, Charles was a carpenter employed as a cabinet maker.

1900 US Census - Bert Emery
I've not been able to locate the 1910 US census for Bert Emery, but here is his 1900 census.
Bert was living with his second wife, Margaret (McDowell) in Ottumwa, Iowa. Bert was working as a carriage trimmer, like his older brother (my great great grandfather) Fred J Emery.
As far as I know, Bert never had children; if he did with his first wife, Mary (Cresak) they never lived with him following Mary's death.

Bert was living in Los Angeles, California with his second wife, Margaret (McDonnell). He was working as a real estate broker, which must have been rather difficult during the Depression.

Terminal Garage - photograph by Koehne-Williams studio
I posted this photograph last month and was unable to read the name of the photographer.
With the help of Julie Lynch from the Chicago Public Library, I have discovered who photographed Fred Daniel's business, Terminal Garage owned by my great grandfather.
Apparently it was from the Koehne-Williams Studio in Chicago.
Here is a copy of William Koehne's obituary from 1965.
If anyone knows where to find stills and negatives from the Koehne- William Studios, please let me know so I can determine whether there are additional photographs of my great grandfather's business.

Louise (Daniels) and Walter Junghans marriage
Here is the marriage certificate for my grandparents, Louise Daniels* and Walter Junghans.
Louise was the first generation born to a "Daniels" instead of "Emery" after my great grandfather Fred Owen Emery took on the last name of his step-father, Wilson Daniels.
*My grandmother had a previous marriage to John A Wright in Chicago, which is the reason why "Wright" shows as her last name on the marriage certificate.

Henry Emery and the Abraham Lincoln/Stephen Douglas debates Part II
A couple of weeks ago I posted about my great great great great grandfather Henry Emery and daughter Catherine who had attended the Lincoln/Douglas debate in Galesburg, Illinois.
Here is an obituary for Henry's daughter Catherine, provided by one of many Emery cousins, Linda Larson.
While the content is difficult to read, the headline is pretty clear.
Catherine Emery was born February 14, 1849 in Canton, Illinois and died December 25, 1938.
She was married to William Kelly on January 12, 1870 near Galva, Illinois.

1930 US Census - Frank Emery
Here is the 1930 US census for Frank Emery, wife Rose and their three children, Donald, Robert and Dorothy.
Frank was employed at a garage which makes me wonder he knew his brother (my great grandfather) Fred Daniels, owned the Terminal Garage in Chicago or whether Frank met his mother. Considering she had a different last name and was married to her third husband by 1930, it seems doubtful.

1910 US Census - Frank Emery
Here is the 1910 US census for my great grandfather's younger brother, Fred Emery (last entry).
By 1910, Frank had moved from Mitchellville, to Des Moines, Iowa. Frank was 18 and working at a lumberyard, living as a 'roomer' at the home of Violet Earhart.
It's possible he could have been related as the name above Frank indicates "William Emery". William Emery was a cousin of Violet Earhart, the head of the household.

1900 US Census - Frank Emery
I was successful in finding the descendants of my great grandfather, Fred Emery's younger brother, Frank, who I thought may have died as an infant.
I had come across Frank's name on the 1900 and 1910 US census, but I wasn't 100% sure it was the same person and didn't know why he was living in a household with so many different last names. I spoke with Frank's granddaughter this week who informed me that he had grown up in an orphanage.
Here is the 1900 US census for the third child born to Abigail (Williams) and Fred J Emery.
Frank is listed as a boarder (8th from the bottom) living in Mitchellville, Polk County, Iowa. Frank was only 8 years old at the time the census was taken.
No one knows why Frank was left behind while his brother and sister went to live with their mother in Chicago after their parents divorced. Unfortunately Frank's children never lived to find out their father had a brother and sister.

The history of Fulton County, Illinois and David Fisher Emery
I don't come across history books very often that mention my ancestors, but the Emery family has been named in a few. Aside from the book "Conrad Emery and His Descendants" written by Frederic B. Emery, it's interesting to see your family documented in a book.
The entry below appeared in "The history of Fulton County, Illinois" written by Charles C Chapman & Co in 1879.
Edith (Fisher) and David Emery were my great great great great great grandparents (though they misspelled David's last name). Their son, my great great great great grandfather Henry would eventually migrate north to Henry County. (Knox county separates Fulton and Henry counties).

Henry Emery and the Abraham Lincoln/Stephen Douglas debates
I ran across an interesting article of historical value that stated my great great great great grandfather Henry Emery attended the Lincoln/Douglas debate in Galesburg, Illinois. His daughter Catherine also attended.
The following day, October 8, 1858, Abraham Lincoln spoke in town; Henry and Catherine sat directly across the table from Mr Lincoln, the future President of the United States.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find confirmation this actually happened, but the Emery's were living in Henry county, Illinois at the time, which would have been about 26 miles northeast of Galesburg, Illinois where the debate was held.
A newspaper account of the debate can be found by clicking here.

1880 US Census - Hannah Emery
By the time the 1880 US Census came out, my great great great great grandfather Henry Emery had passed away. He died November 17, 1875 and is buried at the Galva Cemetery in Galva, Illinois, just a few miles east of where he had lived in Weller township.
Hannah, the second wife of Henry, was living in Galva, with two of her grandchildren, Laura and Otis*.
*And not to confuse you but..... according to the book "Conrad Emery and His Descendants", Henry's younger brother Frederick Welker Emery married Hannah Gaffney in 1833. Several years after Frederick died in 1846, Hannah married Frederick's older brother Henry, my great great great great grandfather in 1860 after the death of my great great great great grandmother, Olive (Jacobs) in 1859.
Laura and Otis were the children of Hannah and Frederick's son, Oliver P Emery, and wife Lorena Griswold (though the book only mentions Laura by name, it doesn't seem to provide any other information about her).
Jacob Emery, the cousin of Henry Emery is also listed as living nearby along with Jacob's third wife, Lydia (Parish-Driscoll) and two of Jacob's children, Bridget and Rose (from Jacob's second marriage to Elizabeth (Neville).

Olive (Jacobs) and Henry Emery
Here is a photo of my great great great great grandparents Olive (Jacobs) and Henry Emery.
I'm not sure what year the photo was taken; it had to have been several years* after their wedding which was January 13, 1825. My guess is that the photo was taken in the 1840's or 1850's. (Olive died September 26, 1859).

Eastern Weller Township, Henry County, Illinois, plat map
The census records have shown that my great great great great grandfather Henry Emery lived in the town of Weller, Henry County, Illinois during the 1860's and 1870's.
Here is a plat map from 1875 for eastern Weller township, in Henry County, which indicates Weller was not a town, but rather a rural area west of Bishop Hill.Henry owned 308 acres and the property is found at the red arrow below (between quadrant 28 and 33), though his name has been misspelled as "Emry".

1870 US Census - Henry Emery
Here is the 1870 US Census for my great great great great grandfather Henry Emery still living in the township of Weller, Henry County, Illinois. Henry was living with his second wife, Hannah (Gaffney) along with someone named Laura, who appears to be 3 years old. It's not likely Laura was born to Henry and Hannah so I would guess she is probably a niece or granddaughter.
Update: February 10, 2011
Should have corrected this October 20, 2010 because I had located the 1880 US Census for Hannah, which explained that Laura was her granddaughter.

1860 US Census - Henry Emery
Here is the 1860 US Census for my great great great great grandfather Henry Emery and his second wife, Hannah (Gaffney). It's difficult to read, but the other members of the household were James H, William P, Jason Rust, Catherine, all children of Henry and his first wife, Olive (Jacobs).
The three Emery's listed between James H and William P are illegible, though one looks like Amanda, who may have been a wife of one of the children (as I have not come across an Amanda born to Henry and Olive), the other two are difficult to figure out as the ages don't match up to what I have for Henry's children.
James H is listed as a teacher, though Frederic B. Emery wrote in his book "Conrad Emery and His Descendants", that James was a physician.
The Emery family was living in the town of Weller, Henry County, Illinois, having moved from Canton in Fuller County, Illinois, sometime after the 1850 Census.

1905 Iowa Census - Fred J Emery
Here is the 1905 Iowa Census for my great great grandfather, Fred J Emery living in Ottumwa, Wapello County with his second wife, May (Morrell) and her son Leo (O'Kill), though I see the census taker wrote down "Emery" as his last name.
The Emery's moved from Marshalltown, Iowa to Wapello County sometime after the 1900 US Census.
Frederic B. Emery wrote in his book "Conrad Emery and His Descendants", that Fred J Emery moved to Colorado sometime around 1900 and also passed away there around 1909, though this was the first documentation I've found that indicated Fred was still living in Iowa, as late as 1905.
This is also the last of the census records I've been able to find for my great great grandfather.

1905 Iowa Census - David W Emery
The last post for the 1830 US Census was the first that reflected my great great great grandfather, David W Emery. I thought I had all of the census records for David, but I recently came across the 1905 Iowa Census (line 332 - 341) for the Emery's living in Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa.
The census lists David W Emery, wife Sarah (Dwire or Dwyer) and Clyde, Ben, Clark, Ella, Bert, Alice and Raymond.
I'm pretty sure Clyde, Ben, Clark and Bert are David and Sarah's children. Ella is Clark's wife. Raymond could be the 11th child that I've been missing from earlier census records and Alice possibly could be the third child born to David and Sarah, though she didn't show up on previous census records past 1870. Unfortunately this census doesn't provide enough information - I need to do a little more research to see if I can verify the relationship of Raymond and Alice to my great great great grandparents.

1830 US Census - Henry Emery, David W Emery
Here is the 1830 US Census for my great great great great grandfather, Henry Emery, living in Vermillion Township, Richland County, Ohio.
The census indicates there were 5 people living in the household, which would have been wife Olive (Jacobs), daughters Mary and Amelia and son David W Emery (my great great great grandfather).
According to the book "Conrad Emery and His Descendants", written by Frederic B. Emery, David was born in Columbus, Ohio, which was about an hour and a half southwest of Vermillion Township. The book doesn't indicate where he found confirmation that Columbus was the location of his birth so the accuracy is questionable.
Listed two lines above Henry is David, which I am guessing was Henry's father, (my great great great great great grandfather).
On line 13 is a John Emery, possibly Henry's brother. Again, the census record for 1830 doesn't provide sufficient information to know with 100% certainty.
Page 2 below. The totals for Henry are listed on the last line.
There was another Henry Emery living in Miami, Ohio but since that Henry was still living there in 1891, I eliminated the possibility of that family being my direct ancestor.

1840 US Census - Henry Emery, David W Emery
1840 was the last US Census that provided limited information. Below is the 1840 Fulton County, Illinois census for my great great great great grandfather, Henry Emery.
A key problem with this census is that it fails to list the names of other members living in the household. You have to do some detective work to figure out whether you have the right family. Relying on the book "Conrad Emery and His Descendants", written by Frederic B. Emery helped verify where the Emery family was living in 1840.
According to the 1840 Census, there were 9 family members living in the household. While I do not know whether the census was taken at the beginning of the year or the end of the year, this particular census would seem to match the number of family members in the Emery household.
In addition to Henry, wife Olive (Jacobs), their 7 children at the time were Mary, Amelia, David (my great great great grandfather), James, Elizabeth Celia, John and Edith Caroline.

I notice on line 5 is another Emery, which looks like "David" (my great great great great great grandfather), most likely Henry's father who moved to Fulton County on October 16, 1834.
